License Plate Recognition Acronyms
LPR - License plate recognition (LPR) is one of the most powerful tools now available to law enforcement agencies. These systems have the ability to identify vehicles that may have wants and warrants associated with them, and they provide a force multiplier for agencies by increasing officer efficiency.
NCIC - National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is a computerized index of criminal justice information (i.e.- criminal record history information, fugitives, stolen properties, missing persons). It is available to Federal, state, and local law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies and is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

NVLS - National Vehicle Location Service (NVLS) is a national data sharing initiative started by Vigilant in 2008. The data in NVLS is made up from two primary sources: 1) data shared to NVLS from law enforcement and 2) commercial LPR, or private data harvested by Vigilant http://ow.ly/qwxVX
DRN - Digital Recognition Network uses lpr for commercial purposes such as: Auto Recovery, Auto Finance, and Insurance. The data helps lenders make right party contact to reduce charge-offs, insurers improve pricing at underwriting and claims investigations, and gives recovery agents the technology they need to recover more vehicles. Vehicle location data has revolutionized the auto recovery industry by helping lenders recover up to 35% more vehicles. Insurance carriers fight fraud and rate evasion on commercial and personal lines with solutions powered by DRN's vehicle location data and analytics. Auto lenders use DRN's unique vehicle location data analytics to improve collections by connecting with customers and curing up to 30% more loans. It is important to note that the data that is generated by Vigilant's law enforcement customers is not shared with DRN, as it is the property of the respective agency that collected the data.

VSR - Vigilant Solutions Reaper
ReaperHD - VIGILANT MOBILE HD LPR/ANPR cameras that will be installed on vehicles - The system. Uses up to four (4) dual-lens LPR cameras, each with integrated Digital Signature Processors (DSP), and advanced imaging and recognition algorithms to provide the most advanced mobile LPR system available.
IR - Infrared (of electromagnetic radiation) having a wavelength just greater than that of the red end of the visible light spectrum but less than that of microwaves. Infrared radiation has a wavelength from about 800 nm to 1 mm, and is emitted particularly by heated objects.
