Setting the M500 Device Settings

Note:  These instructions correspond to step 8 on the M500 recommended workflow.

The M500 Device settings allow you to set:

  • Whether any available Artificial Intelligence (AI) features should be enabled on the M500 (automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), backseat passenger detection)
  •  
    • When ALPR is enabled, whether the M500 shows boxes around detected license plates Always, Never, or only when in-car officers turn the boxes on (User selection).
    • When backseat passenger detection is enabled, whether the M500 automatically turns on the cabin camera when the system detects a person in the defined vehicle area.

  • What information to display as text on the M500 screen
  • Format for GPS coordinates appearing on the M500 screen
  • Whether speed values should be saved as part of the metadata associated with the recorded event
  • Whether non-supervisor officers have permission to change some of the settings or review events that are not their own on the M500
  • When and how the M500 is automatically powered on and off, if it is in a vehicle, in Power Behavior
  • How much delay should occur before the M500 is automatically shut down once the ignition is turned off
  • Whether the M500 display screen should go blank when the vehicle begins to move
  • Whether officers are allowed to put the M500 into Covert Mode

To set up the M500 Device settings:

  1. Access Device Management.
  2. Click Configurations in the Device Management pane.
    1. The 4RE Configurations list opens.
  3. Click the M500 tab.
    1. The M500 Configurations list opens.
  4. Click the Edit icon for the configuration you want to set up.
    1. The Edit Configuration dialog box opens.
  5. Click the Device tab.
    1. The M500 Device settings tab opens.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  1. Verify or update the Enable AI check box to enable any available artificial intelligence features on M500.
  2. Verify or update the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) Feature check box to enable license plate detection on the M500.
  3. Verify or update whether the boxes around detected license plates should be on Always, Never, or controlled by the in-car officer (User selection).

On-Screen Text Management

  1. Verify or update the check boxes to display system information as text or graphics on the M500 display screen.

GPS

  1. Verify or update the GPS-coordinate Format to display on the M500 display screen.
  2. Verify or update the check box to include vehicle speed data with the metadata in the EL database.

In-Car Officer Permissions

  1. Verify or update the check boxes that give officers permission to change certain M500 settings without a supervisor password.
  2. Verify or update the level of video review officers can perform on the M500 without a supervisor password.

Power Behavior

  1. Verify or update the check boxes that set the rules regarding whether the M500 should power on or off with the vehicle ignition if the DVR is in a vehicle.
  2. Verify or update the check box that determines whether the M500 stops recording when the Ignition shutdown timer expires.
  3. Verify or update how long the M500 should wait before it shuts down after the ignition is turned off, if set to power off with the vehicle ignition, in the Ignition and Wireless transfer shutdown timer fields.

Other

  1. Verify or update the check box that sets whether the M500 display screen goes blank when the vehicle begins to move.
  2. Verify or update the check box that allows officers to put the M500 into Covert Mode.
  3. Click the Recording tab (or other Edit Configuration tab) to continue setting up the configuration.
    1. Alternatively, click Done to save the settings and close the Edit Configuration dialog box.
