The customer would like to connect mobile radio MTM5400 to the cable RS232. They underline that they want to do this directly. Without any other connectors.

It is not possible to connect a RS232 cable to the MTM5400 radio directly, as the radio, contrary to the RS232 cable, uses TLL logic. Attempting to use a direct connection from a regular RS232 port to the radio might potentially damage the radio. 

That is why it is highly recommended to use the Motorola Active Data Cable PMKN4104, which contains the voltage level converter to adjust the RS232 levels to the TTL levels used by the radio. Connect the active data cable PMKN4104 to the RS232 and then to the radio.
