Verify
We recommend setting each camera up while still in the office, not in the field.
This will ensure they are up-to-date with firmware, connecting properly to LEARN, etc.
This way, you will know they are operational prior to install. It is easier to troubleshoot in the office as opposed to after a camera is placed in the field.
Check for SIM card and SD card
Each L6Q camera includes a factory installed SD card to buffer data. Subscription based cameras also include an activated SIM card (provided by Motorola Solutions) and data plan, ready to go. Or, you can install your own SIM to provide cellular data on a plan of your choice.
Verify Account Requirements
Agency Manager (VehicleManager) and Site Manager (ClientPortal) accounts can install and manage cameras in the Mobile Companion app. Access for User level accounts is configurable through VehicleManager or ClientPortal.
Download the Mobile Companion App
The Mobile Companion app is available for iOS or Android mobile devices, and will guide you through the entire installation process, every step of the way.
Log in to Mobile Companion App
An active VehicleManager or ClientPortal account with a Mobile Companion subscription is needed to install L6Q cameras. Contact Vigilant Support for details.
Ensure Batteries Are Charged
All cameras and solar batteries come at 30% charge for safety reasons.
Ensure all solar panels are fully charged on the day of installation. This can be done by setting them out in the sun and it usually takes approximately 10 hours.
Ensure all cameras are fully charged on the day of installation. Utilizing the enclosed USB C connector this can take anywhere from 1-3 days per camera.
Note: Faster charging can be accomplished by the following
-Charge the solar panel
-Plug a camera into the charged solar panel
-Once fully charged, remove the camera battery pack to maintain the charge
-Fully charge solar panel again
Important: If solar panels and cameras are not fully charged at deployment, this could cause issues
with the camera's ability to keep up with traffic as it would be operating at a deficit from
day one.
We offer an accessory wall charger that can be purchased and utilized for faster charging.
Setup
Connect the Antenna
Attach the included LTE antenna to the back of the camera before pairing with the Mobile Companion App.
Add and Pair the Camera to the Mobile Companion App
Follow the step by step pairing instructions in the Mobile Companion app.
Prepare for Deployment
When proceeding to the installation site, place all L6Q hardware into the product packaging or into the optional add-on Quick Deployment Carry Case. The case is designed to carry the L6Q kit safely and securely, while minimizing trips up and down ladders. Installation may also require: a measuring tape or wheel, marking chalk, and an A-frame ladder with an 12-14 foot reach.
Install
Review Camera Information
Review camera information and observe the Pre-Installation Reminder. Follow along with the installation instructions provided in the Mobile Companion app.
Capture Zone
Survey the installation site to determine the camera installation point, and capture zone. Measure the distance from the camera to the capture zone, along the side of the road. Measure the distance from the side of the road to the capture zone. Enter these two distances into the Mobile Companion app when prompted.
Select Deployment Method
Based on the selected deployment method, install the Solar Panel, AC power adapter, or DC power cable.
Install Camera Mounts and Camera
Follow the step by step installation instructions in the Mobile Companion app.
Aim Camera and Review Plates
Use the aiming utility in the Mobile Companion app to capture sample license plates and ensure optimal camera orientation.
Notes
For Solar Panel Deployment
A mounting pole or surface in unobstructed direct sunlight with south-facing orientation that will see the most hours of sunlight during the day. (Charge solar panel battery before installation)
For AC/DC Deployment
A mounting point wired with accessible AC or DC power. A certified electrician and a permit may be required to connect to an existing power source.
Cellular Service
Serviceable cellular signal from the carrier in use. (Verizon, AT&T, or FirstNet)
Mounting Location Requirements
Cameras must be installed on a side of the roadway, and must be located no less than 90 ft. from an intersection.
Recommended Capture Zone
Mount the camera at the recommended height and distance, and enter into the Mobile Companion app for the best plate capture zone.
Capture Speed and Field of View
Capture license plate data in one or two lanes traveling in a single direction. Scanning of moderate to heavy volume street traffic between 10 and 75 mph is supported.
Road Requirements
Camera must NOT be installed at a corner, intersection, parking lot, or location that is prone to backed-up traffic.
Radar Zoning Requirements
The camera and radar’s view must be free of tree branches, metal signs, power lines, or other obstructions. Dead zone of the radar will not pick up passing vehicles.
