Issue
A maintenance window should be a scheduled time to install software updates, add new features and fix known bugs or vulnerabilities to help keep users and the system secure.
Environment
Hosted & On-Prem systems
Resolution
Prep: If there are multiple servers, verify Connectivity to all assigned Servers.
Make sure you have Admin Tools folder on all servers Desktop you are working on before the maintenance window.
For Windows Updates, from the Start button, click on Settings. Select Update & Security.
Note: Depending on the Agency, this could be controlled by the System Admin.
The best option is to have the system download the updates automatically and notify when they are ready to be installed. This way, they can be installed during a scheduled maintenance window to avoid unexpected downtime.
Once the updates have been applied, reboot the servers.
Once the servers have rebooted and are back up and running, log in and verify the following:
From Computer Management, check the Event Viewer for any issues/errors.
Check Services for any of the Startup Type, that are set to Automatic have a Status of Running.
From the Controller, open VoiceNet Monitor and verify the phone lines are up and there are no issues.
After a system has been rebooted, make sure to Test the system to make sure it is meeting expectations.
Log into the Vesta Communicator portal.
From the Scenarios tab, place a checkmark beside the scenario to be tested, and click on Proceed to Activation under the Activation Options menu on the left.
It is best to have a scenario setup that will test all the different devices your system can use.
After the scenario has completed, proceed to the Reports tab. Place a checkmark beside the Activation that was just run, and under the Reports menu, select the Activation Detail (By Time) report, and review the Device Status column for any issues during testing.
