Setting the 4RE Device Settings
Note: These instructions correspond to step 8 on the 4RE recommended workflow.
The 4RE Device settings allow you to set:
- What information to display as text on the 4RE screen, in On-Screen Text Management
- Radar speed values to be displayed on the 4RE screen and included in the recorded event, if applicable
- Format for GPS coordinates appearing on the 4RE screen and whether the GPS speed should be displayed if no radar is connected to the system
- Whether speed values should be saved as part of the metadata associated with the recorded event
- Whether non-supervisor officers have permission to change some of the settings or review events that are not their own on the 4RE, in In-Car Officer Permissions
- Rules for the activation of wireless, cabin, and auxiliary Microphones connected to a 4RE
- When and how the 4RE is automatically powered on and off, if it is in a vehicle, in Power Behavior
- How much delay should occur before the 4RE is automatically shut down once the ignition is turned off
- Whether the 4RE display screen should go blank when the vehicle begins to move, in Other

Resolution
To set up the 4RE Device settings:
- Access Device Management.
- Click Configurations in the Device Management pane.
- The 4RE Configurations list opens.
- Click the Edit icon for the configuration you want to set up.
- The Edit Configuration dialog box opens.
- Click the Device tab.
- The 4RE Device settings tab opens.
On-Screen Text Management
- Verify or update the check boxes to display system information as text or graphics on the 4RE display screen.
Radar
- Verify or update the check boxes to display radar values on the 4RE display screen, if a radar is connected to the system.
GPS
- Verify or update the GPS-coordinate Format to display on the 4RE display screen.
- Verify or update the check box to display the speed calculated by the GPS on the 4RE display screen, if no radar is connected to the system.
- Verify or update the check box to include vehicle speed data with the metadata in the EL database.
In-Car Officer Permissions
- Verify or update the check boxes that give officers permission to change certain 4RE settings without a supervisor password.
- Verify or update the level of video review officers can perform on the 4RE without a supervisor password.
Microphone
- Verify or update the check boxes that set the rules for the activation of wireless, cabin, and auxiliary microphones connected to a 4RE.
- Verify or update the check box that determines whether the wireless microphone continues to charge after the 4RE has shut down.
- Verify or update the check boxes that give officers permission to turn off the microphones connected to a 4RE during a recorded event.
Power Behavior
- Verify or update the check boxes that set the rules regarding whether the 4RE should power on or off with the vehicle ignition if the DVR is in a vehicle.
- Verify or update the check box that determines whether the 4RE stops recording when the Ignition shutdown timer expires.
- Verify or update how long the 4RE should wait before it shuts down after the ignition is turned off if set to power off with the vehicle ignition, in the Ignition shutdown timer field.
- Verify or update how long the 4RE should wait before fully shutting down if it is still transferring video when the ignition shutdown timer expires, in the Wireless transfer shutdown timer field.
Other
- Verify or update the check box that sets whether the 4RE display screen goes blank when the vehicle begins to move.
- Click the Recording tab (or other Edit Configuration tab) to continue setting up the configuration.
- Alternatively, click Done to save the settings and close the Edit Configuration dialog box.
