Resolution
Both versions remove all security keys from the radio. V1 performs a complete wipe of all software and configuration data, leaving a blank and unusable radio. V2 disables the radio from any function except programming mode, but it still contains the codeplug and software. The radio can be re enabled by a customer with CPS and a unique Entitlement ID (EID).
Permanent Disable feature has two versions which work slightly differently.
Full details of the differences are as follows:
When a radio is disabled with Permanent Disable V1
- The radio becomes inoperable
- All MMI is disabled
- All its security key material (GCK, GSKO, DMO SCKs, Ks, DCK, CCK, and TMO SCKs) is deleted
- All its codeplug is deleted
- All its software is deleted
The radio has to be returned to Motorola Solutions to be recovered
When a radio is disabled with Permanent Disable V2
- The radio appears to be inoperable
- MMI appears to be disabled
- All its security key material (GCK, GSKO, DMO SCKs, Ks, DCK, CCK, and TMO SCKs) is deleted
- Radio enters programming mode when powered up
- Codeplug data is not deleted but cannot be accessed by the user
- The software is not deleted but cannot be accessed by the user
The radio can be recovered including its software and codeplug using CPS and an Entitlement ID (EID). As an EID is only available to Motorola Solutions service staff or to a customer, it is not possible for anyone with an illegal copy of CPS to re enable the radio.
