New Feature "TCH Fast Access" in DIMETRA Express R2.5

Summary

From Dimetra Express R2.5 a new feature will be added to allow fast access to Traffic Channels for SDS use heavy systems.

The concern is that customers may incorrectly apply this setting without fully understanding what it is for.

System Planner states:-

2.3.4           Traffic Channel Access Profile

The Traffic Channel Access Profile, formerly known as Channel Access Profile, feature aka ’SDS Transmission Delay’, optimizes access for short data service and call pre-emption on voice channels.

It allows the Short Data Service to be used more effectively by improving the SDS transmission on TCHs. Channel access can be configured to better align with services used on the channels, by enabling modification of the access settings configured for the TCHs.

2.3.4.1           Additional information

When this feature is enabled for an MTS site, call control information can be sent immediately by 'stealing' timeslots reserved for voice instead of waiting for TS18 as the default. That optimises the TCHs at that site for SDS transmission and call pre-emption during voice calls.

SDS transmissions and call pre-emption will go through quicker but voice quality may be impaired if network coverage is not optimal.

When the feature is disabled, the site will use common access settings for all channel types.

This feature is configurable in WebNM per base station as an ON/OFF setting.

R2.5 online help file states:-

Enabling this feature on systems mainly used for voice traffic may cause undesired behaviour, ie. loss of audio, delayed audio access to TCH etc.

D-0150 Support for configuring 'Fast access on TCH'

https://jira.mot-solutions.com/browse/TAIPAN-4007

Description

Short feature description:

Add support for configuring an exiting Xcore Base Station parameter from DIMETRA Express Network manager.

Background is that a customer (APM terminals) observed that Call interrupt functionality, which did not fulfill their requirements.

The solution for APM terminals was to add support for this additional Base Station Parameter.

Subscriber TDACC has been working with the customer in order to come up with a solution.
