How to Check Tomcat Memory Usage

Issue

This article will walk you through how to check Tomcat / Standalone RAM usage using Grafana.

Environment

Flex

Resolution

  • Open Firefox, Chrome, or Edge (IE is not supported), and navigate to: https://[IP Address of their Spillman Server]:/4443/Grafana.
  • Login with Flex credentials.
  • Go to 1-Dashboards > 2-Manage > 3-Performance (as seen below).

  • Scroll down to their Tomcat Memory graph, click the down arrow to the right of the graph's title, and click view.
  • Set the time-frame for the graph to at least the Last 7 days.
  • Verify whether their primary tomcat has been allocated enough memory (see examples below).

Good:

Bad:

  • Use the above process to check memory allocations for the Interfaces Server, and other standalone tomcat servers.
  • Increase memory allocations as needed using this guide as a reference.

Proactively adjusting tomcat memory allocations to a working level will:

  • Actively fix issues the agency is currently experiencing.
  • Increase the overall stability of their system.
  • Prevent future calls (especially those in the middle of the night).
