Question
What are some Best Practices to follow when using ARS on a MOTOTRBO System from SmartPTT perspective?
Answer
A lot of customers use the ARS feature for 3rd party applications like SmartPTT so they can easily locate radios that are online from the console and also generate reports which radios are either online or offline at any given time.
There are several items customer can verify:
1) The MNIS version that is installed has to be compatible with the SmartPTT version as well as the firmware on the radio system. The customer needs to use the MNIS with Privacy instance where the security menu is available.
2) The ARS ID in the subscribers code plug needs to match the MNIS Application ID.
3) The ARS Monitoring ID in the subscriber needs to be set to 0.
4) From the SmartPTT Radioserver – Settings tab – ARS section. Customer can enable the option Use Radio Check checkbox, Save the settings and restart the Radioserver service to see if there are going to be any differences.
If no ARS is required and subscribers are not configured with ARS ID, then the ARS feature can be disabled on the SmartPTT Radioserver. If it is disabled, customer will no longer see the Radio IDs in under the Radio Fleet section or in the Radios window of SmartPTT Dispatcher. All the Radio IDs are still going to be displayed under the Calls window and in the Event Log, they are just not going to be populating under Radio Fleet and Radios windows.
