Troubleshooting FDMA affilliation issues on a P25 Generic (Non DVRS enabled) PSU and Futurecom DVR, DVR-LX and VRX1000 using a digital VR Channel.

Issue

Troubleshooting FDMA affiliation issues on a P25 Generic (Non DVRS Enabled) PSU when using a digital VR channel on a Futurecom DVR, DVR-LX and VRX-1000.

Environment

Portables configured for P25 without the "QA00631 - DVRS PSU ACTIVATION" on a Digital VR channel with a Mobile on an FDMA system Talk Group referred to as P25 Generic (Non DVRS enabled) PSU (Portable Subscriber Unit)

Resolution

Below is a list of items to verify while troubleshooting affiliation issues with the above configuration when firmware compatibility requirements are met and customers indicate they have followed the correct programming instructions:

Verify on MSU:

  1. There are no errors on the MSU display.
  2. DVRS Mode is set to: System
  3. PTT the MSU on the selected talk group will transmit into the system.
  4. Verify the correct "Digital" VR channel is in use.
  5. Verify that Talkgroup 1 is not used on the system. APX portables default to Talkgroup 1. If TG1 is in use, an unused system talkgroup must be entered in the talkgroup translation table or a list of talkgroups must be added for talkgroup proxying.

On DVR:

  1. The Simplex frequency and NAC codes match the ones programmed in the Portable "or" the Duplex frequencies in the portable's VR conventional personality are the reciprocal of those in the VR channel.
  2. In Repeater Channel Setup, verify that VR mode for the intended Digital channel is set to "User" or strapped to "System".
  3. In the Mobile Channel Setup Window, if the "VR Ch All Allowed" column is set to "NO" for the selected channel, verify that the intended Digital VR channel is checked. If set to "Yes", manual VR channel selection will be required on the Control Head.
  4. In the Mobile Channel Setup Window, TG mode column, verify that "None" or "System" are selected. "User" is also valid, this setting uses last selected and allows for manual mode selection on the CH.
  5. Verify that the VR is not operating in secondary mode during testing.

On the Generic P25 Portable:

  1. Confirm the intended Zone and Channel is selected.
  2. Verify the DVR conventional system is set to Astro.
  3. Verify the frequency options and NAC codes in the conventional personality are correct.
  4. Verify the Conventional System "Individual ID" matches the Trunking "Unit ID" or the "Individual ID" is valid on the system.
  5. Verify that the "Talk Permit Tone" box in the "TX options" of the conventional personality is unchecked.
  6. If TG 1 is in use, set up talkgroup translation or talkgroup proxying on the portable and DVR (see programming guide).

If there is still no affiliation after verifying all of the above items, request the DVRLogTool .ELG log file per KB0034484
