Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why is Motorola Solutions requiring me to use a verification code for my account?

A: We are requiring a verification code as an extra layer of security for your account. 2-step verification ensures that you are the only user logging into your account. This secondary layer of security helps us confirm your identity, keeping your information and data secure.

Q: Where can I receive my verification code?

A: You can receive your verification code via email or via the Okta Verify or Google Authenticator mobile app from a designated smartphone device.

Q: Which method should I choose to receive my verification code?

A: We recommend you use Okta Verify or Google Authenticator to receive your verification code because they are stronger verification methods. However, Okta Verify and Google Authenticator both require the use of a smartphone. Email is also available as an alternate verification method.

Q: What is Okta Verify?

A: Okta Verify is a mobile application developed by Okta that is used to confirm your identity when you sign in to your Okta account. Okta Verify allows you to verify your identity via a 2-step verification process by quickly approving a push notification from the app or by entering a one-time code from within the app, instead of receiving a SMS text message or phone call. This means that when you log in or make changes to your profile, you will be prompted to enter a verification code sent to the smartphone installed with the Okta Verify mobile application.

Q: What is Google Authenticator?

A: Similar to Okta Verify, Google Authenticator is a mobile security application developed by Google that is used to confirm your identity when you sign in to your account. Google Authenticator adds an extra layer of security to your online accounts by using 2-step verification. It generates one-time passwords (OTPs) that you need in addition to your password when logging in, making it more difficult for unauthorized users to access your accounts.

Q: For how long are the verification codes valid?

A: The temporary verification code depends on the chosen verification method:

  • Email notification: Verification code is valid for 5 minutes. Once the code expires, you will need to initiate the verification code again.

  • Okta Verify code: Verification code is valid for 30 seconds. A new code will appear in the app every 30 seconds.

  • Google Authenticator code: Verification code is valid for 30 seconds. A new code will appear in the app every 30 seconds.

Q: What happens if I do not enroll in 2-step verification?

A: If you are not enrolled in 2-step verification, you will be directed to a page where you must enroll in 2-step verification before you are able to log in to your account.

Q: Can I opt out of 2-step verification?

A: No. 2-step verification will be mandatory for all external users accessing Motorola Solutions websites and applications.

Q: What should I do if I do not have a smartphone and I also cannot use email as a verification method?

A: Please work with Motorola Solutions support on a possible short-term or long-term 2-step verification exception. Exceptions are subject to approval on a rare basis.

Q: What should I do if I cannot install an app on my smartphone or mobile device and I also cannot use email as a verification method?

A: Please work with Motorola Solutions support on a possible short-term or long-term 2-step verification exception. Exceptions are subject to approval on a rare basis.

Q: I chose to use Okta Verify for my two-step verification method. Should I choose to receive a push notification or use the verification code in the Okta Verify app when I log in?

We recommend using the Okta Verify push notification for ease of use.

Q: What happens if I lose my smartphone with the Okta Verify or Google Authenticator app installed, or if I change my smartphone?

A: You must re-enroll your new smartphone into 2-step verification with Okta Verify or Google Authenticator.

Q: I am enrolled in 2-step verification with my smartphone, but I am not receiving Okta Verify or Google Authenticator push notifications. What should I do?

A: You should ensure that your smartphone is connected to the internet to receive Okta Verify or Google Authenticator push notifications. Your smartphone device time should be in sync with your phone carrier time (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.). Okta Verify and Google Authenticator will not work properly if the times are not in sync. If you have issues with setting up the Okta Verify or Google Authenticator app on your smartphone due to Wi-Fi or cellular data restrictions, please switch from cellular to Wi-Fi or vice versa and retry.

Q: How many times can I enter an invalid verification code?

A: The maximum amount of times you can enter an invalid Okta Verify or Google Authenticator verification code is five (5) times. On the sixth try, even the valid verification code will not work. You must sign in again to request a new verification code.

Q: I am enrolled in 2-step verification with my email, but I am not receiving my verification code. What should I do?

A: You should troubleshoot this issue by checking the following:

  • Ensure your email address is correct.

  • Check your  spam or junk folder. The verification code email may have been delivered to the spam or junk folder.

  • Wait a few minutes. The delay could be caused by network issues. If the verification code email arrives after 5 minutes, you must request another code. The email verification code is only valid for 5 minutes.

Q: What data is collected by Okta Verify?

A: Information on data collected by Okta Verify is available here.

Q: What device information can Okta administrators see?

Q: Is Okta Verify included in Okta's penetration testing and included in Okta's SOC 2 audit report?

A: Okta Verify is included in Okta's third-party penetration test, FedRAMP penetration test and public bug bounty program. It undergoes internal code reviews and penetration testing as new features are added and the mobile app is cycled every few years for external penetration testing. Okta Verify is also audited and attested to in Okta’s SOC 2 Type II report.

Q: What data is collected by Google Authenticator?

A: Information on data collected by Google Authenticator is available here.

Q: Is Google Authenticator included in Google’s penetration testing and included in SOC 2 audit report?

A: Google Authenticator's security measures are likely included in Google's internal security audits and penetration testing, and contribute to their overall SOC 2 compliance. However, there is no direct public confirmation stating that Google Authenticator specifically is listed as a separate product in their SOC 2 reports.
